Collaboration Over Competition: Using Your Practice Works Membership to Grow—Together
When you run a health- or wellness-focused practice, it’s easy to feel alone in the business-building side of things. Yet some of the most sustainable ways to reach new clients come through relationships—especially with other providers who serve the same community in complementary ways.
A warm introduction from a respected colleague carries more weight than any ad ever could, and many of those introductions can begin right inside Practice Works.
Why It Pays to Connect
Whole-person care. When a massage therapist refers to a PT down the hall and a counselor sends a client for restorative yoga, everyone wins.
Pre-qualified referrals. A colleague who understands your approach has already explained why you’re the right fit, so new clients arrive ready.
Shared momentum. A handful of allied providers can swap ideas, celebrate wins, and reduce that lone-wolf feeling many solo practitioners know too well.
And none of this requires social media or paid ads—just real relationships and clear information.
Simple Ways to Collaborate Using Your Practice Works Membership
Refresh Your Directory Profile
Take ten minutes to review your Practice Works directory listing and make sure it still accurately reflects the work that you do and how clients get started. Clear language helps colleagues and potential clients understand if you’re a good fit.
Offer Warm, Specific Referrals
When a client needs something you don’t provide, walk them to the shared brochure/business-card station or email them a colleague’s contact info. Be equally clear about who you serve best so others can do the same for you.
Create a One-Page Resource
A rack card or tri-fold explaining what you do, who you help, and how to get started makes hand-offs effortless. It’s easier for someone to refer you when they can hand over something that answers common questions and clarifies next steps.
Attend Practice Works Gatherings
Practice Works hosts informal gatherings a few times a year (the next one is September 30 at 5:30pm at the Southside location). It’s a great chance to meet members from the other Practice Works location, chat with colleagues whose hours rarely overlap yours, and put faces to Remote Works members you’ve only seen in the directory. Show up, introduce yourself, learn what other members do, and mention the types of clients who benefit most from your work.
Design Materials That Travel Well
When a colleague wants to refer you, thoughtfully designed pieces make the hand-off easy:
Business cards with concise messaging and a clear next step.
Brochures in the shared display area - easy for anyone to grab.
A referral-friendly PDF or private landing page colleagues can send digitally (QR codes can help, too).
And don’t forget your website. Even with a warm referral, most people still look you up online before they book. When your site reflects the same clarity and care as your brochures and cards, it doesn’t just remove hesitation—it helps the client reach a full, confident “yes.”
If you missed it, my earlier post “What If Your Website Could Make Your Practice Feel Easier (and Save You Time)” explains how a well-aligned site can do that heavy lifting.
A Members-Only Offer
If you’re a current Practice Works member, I’m offering a special package right now: business card design and/or brochure design (tri-fold or rack card). We’ll match your brand, answer the questions colleagues need to pass along, and select a printer that makes the finished piece feel every bit as professional as the care you provide.
Interested? Log in to OfficeRND, check the Benefits section, and follow the design offer link. You’ll choose your package, fill out a short form, and the system will take care of the contract and payment.
Final Thought
Connection beats competition every time. Your Practice Works membership already gives you space, a supportive network, and the tools to share expertise. Adding clear, well-designed referral materials is one of the simplest ways to amplify those connections.
But referral pieces are just the beginning. The biggest impact comes when your cards, brochures, and conversations all point back to a website and brand that fully reflect your values and the care you provide.
