A Physical Therapist and Yoga teacher for 20 years Becca is known in the Birmingham area for her instruction in therapeutic yoga and for providing one on yoga and physical therapy. She is a cofounder of Practice Works and lead trainer for HereNowYoga teacher trainings. Becca is also a certified Yoga Therapist with IAYT.
Suzanne is a Kripalu lineage yoga instructor with specialty training in Yoga Nidra, Yoga for Cancer, and Yoga for Seniors She combines a flowing style with a focus on strength, breath, light-heartedness and a quiet spirituality. She finds that yoga provides the connection between the physical body, the true self, and the divine energy of the universe.
Mary Ann Somers
She has been teaching yoga since 2008 and has received two 200-hour Yoga Alliance certifications, one in 2009 from Birmingham Yoga with Akasha Ellis and Laura Tyree and the other in 2017 from HereNowYoga with Becca Impello and Kim Drye. While remaining rooted in the heart of yogic teachings, her classes are a mix of traditional yoga and functional and therapeutic movement practices. Mary Ann encourages her students to engage in self-study on the mat and guides them towards a foundation of healthy movement.
Keeley Michael is a C-IAYT 1,000-hr Yoga Therapist. She has been a committed practitioner of yoga since 2010 and has dedicatedly studied under Yoga Therapist, Laura Jane Mellencamp-Murphy, since 2013.
Lauren Rae Brown
RYT 200, LMT
Lauren graduated from Heartwood’s Yoga Teacher Training program in 2008 and continued her mentorship with co-owners John LeMunyon and Kate Tremblay, teaching classes at Heartwood from 2008-2012. Lauren was especially drawn toward restorative yoga in her personal practice and naturally combines her experience as a manual therapist with the supportive, comforting role of Restorative Yoga instructor.
Stephen is a long time student of Tai Chi beginning in 1975 from Birmingham’s renown dance maven Laura Toffell, in 1982 with Martin Inn of the Inner Research Institute and in 1985, with William C.C. Chen in New York. Since 1984, Stephen has been teaching Tai-ji Quan and Qi Gong in Birmingham. And taking classes more or less yearly with Mr. Chen in New York.
Devon Watson Gage
Devon has a heart of pure yoga. Since 2004 she has sought out every class and teacher training in the Birmingham area. She has a 200 hr YTT training with Sacred Glow Vinyasa and 200 hr YTT certification from Here Now Yoga alignment based teacher training. Devon organized and led Monday Night Yoga at Ruffner Mountain for two years. She also owns and operates a salon and believes health and beauty are one in the same. “I feel that it is more important to practice than to teach… without practicing you don’t have the experience to teach.” Practice Works is my place for both.
Kym is a graduate of the HereNowYoga 200 hr YTT training and has continued my education to include certification in the practice of chair yoga. Her style focuses on gentle and restorative movements that encourage flexibility and relaxation. Utilizing props to promote alignment and accessibility to all levels of fitness. Kym believes there is no greater gift than compassion, the compassion we extend to others and reflect on to ourselves. Her goal is to create a safe environment for people to explore the body’s potential and reconnect with stillness that exists in the mind. In her spare time she loves to travel, read, write poetry, and sing.
Marie Hurley Blair
Marie completed her Yoga Alliance 200-hour certification in 2010, and is a graduate of the Mindful Yoga Works program with Kimberly and Jim Carson at Oregon Health and Science University focusing on chronic pain and cancer; Integrative Yoga for Seniors at Duke Integrative Medicine; Adaptive Yoga with Matthew Sanford; and Yoga Anatomy: Principles with Leslie Kaminoff. A retired school librarian and active blogger, Marie welcomes curiosity and wonder.
Kathy Green is a HereNowYoga trained RYT-200 yoga teacher. She has had additional specialty training in yoga for the TBI community as well as yoga on The Great Yoga Wall. Kathy is currently enrolled in a Yoga Therapy program to continue her education that will enable her to offer more specialized services to the community. She has an alignment based style and thinks that all yoga classes should include a healthy dose of laughter, joy, childlike wonder and an openness to explore and discover the present moment.
As a yoga teacher Dorrie wants to encourage structural integrity, safe self exploration, curiosity and a sense of physical well-being. In 2017 Dorrie completed a 200 hour alignment based yoga teacher training with Becca Impello and Kim Drye. She has practiced yoga for the past twelve years and frequently attends a variety of workshops to enhance her yoga practice. She has training in Yoga Wall instruction, and Yoga for Seniors. Dorrie believes that yoga can positively change your life and calm a hectic mind.
