While a restorative yoga practice relies on supportive propping in order for the physical body to fully relax, you can always make do with common items from around the house. Common props we make available and use in classes at Practice Works are yoga bolsters, blankets, eye pillows and sandbags.

At home substitutions:

Instead of a yoga bolster try gathering firm couch cushions or throw pillows.

Yoga blankets can be substituted with bath towels or throw blankets.

A soft scarf can take the place of an eye pillow.

A bag (or bags) of rice or beans or anything soft and heavy can stand in for sandbags.

Feel free to get creative, and set aside a quiet space in your home where you will not be disturbed by pets or people. Clear the space, arrange for soft lighting, and be sure to wear comfortable clothing. YES, pajamas are a great choice!
